Welcome on Board – The Lake Garda regatta “La Virgiliana”
Lake Garda waters and beautiful setting is not new to be an unique and ideal destination for a number of water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, paragliding, kitesurfing, canoeing and even scuba diving and the background to many national and international races. That’s also merit to its winds that blow all over the waters’ lake: brisk winds are most known at the top northern lake to gentle breezes at the foot.
To open the sailing season 2010 is the traditional regatta “La Virgiliana” that sees beautiful boats battling it out in a race along the Riviera degli Olivi, the Veneto’ shore of the lake, from Peschiera del Garda to Punta San Virgilio before turning back to cross the finishing line. The event is held every first Sunday of May, which means this year is taking place on the 2nd of May, starting at 8.30am next to the organizer Association Fraglia Vela di Peschiera‘s head office.
This will be only the first event in a series of competitions on Lake Garda’s waters that will culminate with probably the most important international sailing regatta “La Centomiglia” (Hundred Mile) held in Gargnano every September.
If you are not a pro sailor don’t despair cause sailing its first a favorite local pastimes and a great sport to admire. All around Lake Garda you will stumble upon numerous sailing schools where you could learn the ropes or, if you have already the basis, you could master it by hiring one of the hundreds boat or yachts moored up in the harbors.
Any other excuse will be just great to visit the spectacular Lake Garda surroundings.
